Our main concern is your pet’s safety. Our doctors are experienced and use only the safest anesthesia protocols.

Intravenous catheters are placed in all anesthetized pets to maximize safety and provide us with the ability to deliver any necessary medications before, during, and after the procedure. IV fluids help to maintain blood pressure and hydration during surgery.

Anesthetized pets are intubated with endotracheal tubes to maintain an open airway and allow for artificial respiration if needed. Anesthesia is maintained with Isoflurane gas and 100% oxygen. Patients are swaddled in a Bair-Hugger warm-air blanket to maintain body temperature and comfort. Our surgery suite is equipped with the most up-to-date monitoring equipment.   • ECG  – electrocardiogram – used to record the electrical activity of the heart; measures heart rate and rhythm
  • Pulse Oximeter  – measures the amount of oxygen in your pet's blood
  • Capnometer – measures end-tidal CO2
  • Doppler and PetMAP  – measure systolic, diastolic, and mean blood pressure 
  • Rectal thermometer – measures core body temperature 
  • Esophageal Stethoscope  – auditory monitor of heart and lungs

Trained technicians constantly monitor all of the above parameters as well as check gum color and capillary refill time.
